Young Architects Competitions Honorable Mention

Alice  Zhang, Hangyujei Yang, Kaimin Wang, and Xuechen Kang

Inspired by the natural canyon's sinuous contours surrounding it, the design manifests as three intertwined linear elements representing people, art, and nature. These elements weave through the landscape in a dynamic spatial dance, linking the road above with its counterpart below.

The architecture unfolds in a cascading sequence of spaces, seamlessly blending indoor and outdoor environments. This tiered retreat weaves a narrative that celebrates the symbiosis between nature and the Chinese folk cultural tradition of art exhibitions. At the core of this interplay is a timeless dialogue, where historic artifacts echo contemporary design. This conversation across time becomes the experience's foundation, inviting visitors on a journey that spans ages and sparks the imagination.

Rushan City enjoys a mild seasonal climate, influenced by its proximity to the Yellow Sea and a lengthy coastline of 185 kilometers. The area is predominantly hilly with an average elevation of 239 meters, though some peaks surpass 500 meters. Between 2010 and 2016, the "Shandong Province Ecological Greening Project" significantly expanded the forests in the hilly and coastal regions.

The specific site for the project lies at the base of a mountain that has an elevation of 95 meters, extending up to 471 meters. It encompasses a diverse terrain of hills, forests, and rivers, rich in vegetation. Rushan is also known for its cultural and tourist attractions, making it a favored holiday spot in the area. The objective of this project is to develop a museum that harmoniously blends naturalism, craftsmanship, and art, further enhancing Rushan's appeal as a destination.
