Designing a package isn’t as simple as it looks. In fact, a package should look completely natural. As though it was created at the same moment in time that the product it encases was created. But of course, this isn’t the way things happen. The product inevitably comes first and the packaging follows. All packaging designs start with an idea. This is translated into a 2D design, which is then adapted to a 3D structure. In addition to decided how a design should be adapted to the package, issues such as color, weight, shape, material and more also come into play.
This is a historic building from 1892 without ADA features. An indoor and outdoor ADA ramp is needed, keeping the original design and symmetry
intact. The central hall is higher than its wings.
Site
Program
For the illusion part, I made significant changes to meet modern needs in libraries, adding dining, conversation areas, computer access, and childcare facilities. In the reality section, I preserved traditional library functions.
Circulation
The entire space, consisting of a center and symmetrical left and right wings, follows a regular grid pattern. Even with the addition of indoor ADA ramps, this pattern remains unbroken.
Books Types
Based on the concept, I placed science fiction and children’s books in the left wing of the library, and banned books and science-related books in the right wing.
